Hayley Marshall: At the Family Farm

Hayden & Hayley

Storyteller: Hayley Marshall, NZ

Bride and groom in open field

How would you describe the style of your wedding?

We didn't set out with an actual style in mind other than keeping it simple and elegant. Having it in a marquee on the family farm allowed us to style as we wished alongside our great wedding suppliers.

What was the best moment of your wedding day?

Partying the night away with our closest friends and family knowing that the hard work was done and everything had come together as we had planned. We finally got to enjoy what we had been planning for months, it almost went too quick!

What is your favorite image in the book and why?

Hard to choose but probably the ones of us in the trees/forest. They were simple and relaxed, not posed and the lighting was perfect at that time of day.

What is your favorite story behind an image in your book?

The page with portraits of our bridal party shows everyone's quirky personalities and the fun that we have together as a group.

What inspires you to take photos?

Photos have always been a big part of our lives growing up and as we are getting older we begin to appreciate them even more, especially now having children of our own and documenting their journey. Our wedding photographer was a cousin of the groom who is an award winning photographer in New Zealand so it was nice to have her record our day.

What bit of advice would you give to someone creating their own wedding memento?

Don't rush into creating an album or printing photos. It has taken us 4 years to create our album and through that process we have come to appreciate photos in different ways than when we first received them. It was also exciting to relive the day by creating this album ourselves rather than the photographer creating it for us.
